Royston Parish Church Choir is a 4-part mixed choir (Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass, all ages from 7 upwards) who lead the music at the main Sunday 10am Eucharist, and special services to celebrate festivals such as Easter, Christmas and Candlemas services. They also regularly sing at weddings by request.
On the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month the choir sing an anthem at the Eucharist and lead the hymns and the musical setting of the liturgy. On the 4th Sunday of the month (a less formal Family Eucharist) the worship songs are accompanied by the church's instrumental group.
The choir's repertoire covers many centuries and styles of sacred music, from Gibbons to Berkeley.
Choir practice is on Wednesday evenings from 7pm-8pm (8:30pm for adults). The first, optional part of the practice (about 20 mins) concentrates on voice training and technique; the remainder on rehearsing the music for forthcoming services.
